Slate Tiles

There are several types of slate tiles, Metallic Slate which is smooth and a wonderful rich Silver and black stone colour or Riven slate which is left in it’s natural state and retains its full character, it is normal process to flatten the back of this slate to provide a level surface. Slate is a fine-grained, homogeneous rock composed of clay or volcanic ash. Slate was extensively used in 18th and 19th century schools for blackboards and writing slates.

Slate tiles are often used for interior and exterior flooring or wall cladding, roof slates or roof shingles are also a very popular choice with developers.

Slate is metamorphosed shale, which is a material made up of silt and clay, the composition is similar to sandstone except that the particle size is much smaller, the shale is subject to heat and pressure and the fine particles are melted together to form slate.

Slate is highly prized for its aesthetic appeal and durability and has been used in homes for thousands of years, a well chosen quality slate floor will last a lifetime and will also add value to your home or commercial project. Slate is a natural durable product that is perfect for use in high traffic areas such as kitchens, it can also be used effectively in bathrooms on both the walls and the floors.
